Windows 8 inital tricks

If you are stuck with windows 8 machine like me, you better start learning how to live with it.

Start desktop after login

First problem I faced was after logging in,  app screen  was displayed instead of desktop.

There is a solution to that.

1) Right click on the task bar. Task bar is bottom bar on your desktop.
2) Select properties
3) Go to Navigation tab and check next to show desktop when I login or close all applications

Your task is done. Next time you login, you can be happily on the desktop.

Run command

Windows 8 does not even have run to run your commands. Start icon on task bar just takes you to store apps. And I know how frustrating it is to go to charms bar (at right edge) and click on search and type command and wait for the result.

Here is what you do.
  1. Click start button (Button with four squares)  on keyboard simultaneously with key r . You will see run dialog. Now type in your command like "cmd" for command prompt, "mspaint" for paint etc.
Control panel

 To go to control panel,
  1. Move you mouse to right edge of screen till you get charms bar.
  2. Click on settings icon at the bottom of charms bar.
  3.  The second option will be control panel
There is a second method as well to get many commands of control panel.
  1. Click start button on keyboard simultaneously with x. A menu with options in control panel will appear on your screen as shown here

Starting your system in safe mode

Unlike windows 7, pressing F8 during boot up will not start safe mode here. To enter safe mode
  1. Boot the system in normal mode
  2. Click on charms bar,
  3. Click on Settings and power button
  4.  Power will display four option to you. Sleep, Hibernate, Shutdown and Restart
  5. Click shift key simultaneously with restart option
  6. In the next screen click "Troubleshoot"
  7. Then click "Advanced options"
  8. Then click "Start up settings"
  9. Then click restart
  10. The system will reboot and show you option with safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt etc.
  11. Press the required function key. e..g for safe mode press F4
  12. You will be booted in safe mode

Hair care and me ??

I delayed writing this post for I was not sure whether I am entitled to write this post. If I put my photo along, I should also add that I do not use Dove shampoo, so that it will serve as a warning to people , if they don't use a proper shampoo, their hair might also look like mine :-( :-( :-( Things (on my head) were not this bad always. I had long black and reasonably thick hair, nicely plaited, when I was a child. In fact I would be sitting on my plaits - they were so long. And to top it all, one of relatives used to say " you say you will be taller and your hair will say it will be longer" or something like that. (Now I have ended up 5.2 ft  and my hair also short sob....) Back then, how did I nourish my hair?I did not do much in fact. But mere paas maa thi. She would religiously oil my hair - everyday. But not soak my head in oil. She would just put half a teaspoon of oil to my head. Then brush my hair nicely and put 2 tight plaits before sending me to school. T
